Man gets life for killing wife

A Pabna court yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife for dowry in 2012.

Judge Gazi Rahman of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal pronounced the verdict at noon.

The convict is Rajib Ahmed, 28, son of Siraj Ahmed of Boubazar village in Sadar upazila.

Rajib married Sonia Khatun, 24, daughter of Osman Ali of Dublia village in the upazila. Since then, he often tortured his wife for dowry.

Following an altercation with Sonia over the matter on the night of December 10, 2012, Rajib killed her and hanged the body from the ceiling of a room to pass it off as suicide.

Victim's father, Osman Ali filed a case with Pabna Police Station, accusing Rajib the following day, according to court sources. After investigation, police submitted charge sheet to the court.
