Earlier in the day, police said the man killed in a blast reportedly while making bombs at the house was a suspected member of banned outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

While addressing a press briefing at the scene, Superintendent of Mymensingh police Syed Nurul Islam said a bomb disposal unit of DMP from Dhaka reached the spot in the morning and recovered the four bombs and more than eight kilograms of gunpowder from the house.

Of the four explosives, two are pressure cooker bombs, each weighing around 2-2.5kg, one is hand grenade and another is hand bomb, the SP said.

The 'militant' wanted to turn the room into a bomb making factory, the SP said adding that if any of the bombs would have exploded in a crowded place then thousands could have died.

Deceased Alam Pramanik, 35, son of Abul Kalam Pramanik of Telkupi in Natore Sadar upazila, was a suspected member of JMB, the SP said.

Alam fled to Mymensingh from Kushtia in fear of militant raids being conducted there, he added.

The man rented a room of the house owned by one Azim Uddin at Kashar village five days ago and two days later, he started living at the house along with his wife, Parveen, 30, and two sons Ibrahim, 8, and Ishak, 3.

His elder son Ibrahim also received splinter injuries during the incident. He is now being treated at Mymensingh Medical College (MMC), the SP said.

Police detained his wife who had been on the run with her two sons last night around 9:30pm, the police official added.

With this, the total number of detainees stands at six as the house owner, his wife and two sons were detained after the incident last night.

All of the detainees are now under Detective Branch (DB) supervision.
