Man confesses raping minor sister-in-law

A youth, who allegedly raped his minor sister-in-law in Dewanganj upazila of the district on Sunday, confessed to violating the girl before a judicial magistrate's court on Monday.

The accused, Mohammad Wasim, 22, son of Hobibur Rahman of Baulpara village of the upazila, is brother-in-law of the victim.

The Court of Judicial Magistrate Wahiduzzaman sent Wasim to jail after his confessional statement under Section 164.

The eight-year-old victim, daughter of a poor farmer, hailing from Polobandha village of Islampur upazila, used to live at her brother-in-law Wasim's house, police said quoting the victim's family members.

Wasim allured his minor sister-in-law about 4:00pm on Sunday by offering jujube locally known as kul, to a maize field at neighbouring Purabhita village where he raped her, leaving her critically injured, said Officer-in-Charge of Dewanganj Police Station Mostasinur Rahman.

The victim's elder brother filed a rape case with the police station accusing Wasim on Sunday night.

The girl, now undergoing treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital, was traumatised, said Superintendent of Police Rounok Jahan, quoting the doctors of the hospital.
