Man confesses to crime

A man arrested on charge of killing a woman and her daughter in Fulgazi upazila of the district on may 24, yesterday confessed to the double murder.

"The arrestee, Faruq Bhuiyan, 40, in his statement under Section 164 in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Dhrubo Jyoti Paul in Feni, said he beat and strangled to death Bibi Fatema and her six-year-old daughter Ishfa at Purba Basikpur village under GM Hat union of Fulgazi on May 24 noon," said MA Murshed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fulgazi Police Station.

"After confirming their death, Faruq covered the bodies with a mattress and fled the scene. Fulgazi police recovered the bodies in the evening that day.

"Faruq, also a resident of Purba Basikpur village, used to sexually harass Fatema, which she protested," the OC said.

Fatema's mother Hosne Ara Begum filed a case with Fulgazi Police Station against unknown accused on May 25 and police on Sunday arrested Faruq with the help of locals.
