Man climbed up N’ganj electric pole, rescued after 7hrs

A man climbed up a 130-foot high voltage electric pole at Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj yesterday was rescued after seven hours.

Zakir Hossain, 25, ascended the electric pole holding cables carrying 130,00 volt electricity near Kanchpur bus stand around 11:00am yesterday, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting police.

On information, a fire-fighting unit rushed to the spot to rescue him as he did not cooperate the team despite its repeated request to climb down, said Foysal Ahmed, a sub-inspector of Sonaragaon Police Station.

Once the power was off, three employees of power division managed to rescue Zakir unhurt around 6.00pm, added the police official.

Locals said Zakir is mentally imbalanced and used to sleep on a nearby road.
