Man beaten dead by nephew in Patuakhali

A man was beaten to death, allegedly by his nephew, over land dispute in Sadar upazila of Patuakhali today.

The deceased was identified as Habib Shikder, 40, of Jaionokathi village in the upazila, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

OC Mostafizur also said there had been longstanding dispute Habib Shikder and his brother Hashem Shikder over the ownership of a piece of land.

The brothers are reported to have engaged in an altercation in the village around 11:00am.

At one stage, Hashem's son Akbar Shikder, along with his followers, beat his paternal uncle with homemade weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.  

On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Akbar and his brother Kawser.

Police also recovered the body and sent it to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy, added OC Mostafizur.
