Man arrested with gold worth Tk 1cr

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged smuggler with 20 gold bars worth Tk 1 crore from Boro Achra border under Benapole Port Police Station in Jessore yesterday morning.

The arrestee, Sabuj Mia, 34, son of Shahidul Islam, is a resident of Sadipur village under the police station.

A team of BGB, acting on a tip-off, conducted a drive in the border area and detained Sabuj, Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer (CO) of BGB 49 Battalion, said, adding that they also seized 20 gold bars from his possession.

After filing a case with Benapole Port Police Station, the seized gold bars were deposited to Benapole Customs House yesterday, the CO said.
