Police today barred Bangla daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman from holding a programme at Dhaka’s Spectra Convention Centre.

The programme titled, ‘Border killing: Resposibility of State’ was arranged by the People’s Movement for Democracy, a pro-BNP platform led by Mahmudur.

Attended by around a hundred people, the programme was slated to start at 9:30am. Around 10:30am, police walked in and said the programme had to be stopped as per instructions from higher authorities, Bashir Ahmed, who handles media affairs for this platform, told The Daily Star.

The pro-BNP intellectuals lingered on the spot for a while before they left, our correspondent reports from the spot.
