Magistrate brings allegation of misconduct against Kushtia SP

A judicial magistrate of Kushtia has filed a complaint, bringing allegation of misconduct against Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath. 

A copy of the complaint lodged by Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan of Kushtia Judicial Magistrate Court with the Election Commission on January 17 has been sent to the Registrar General's Office of the Supreme Court for necessary action.

Registrar General of the Supreme Court Md Ali Akbar confirmed that his office received the copy last night, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the law and home ministries and the office of Inspector General of Police.

In the complaint, the magistrate mentioned that he was appointed as a first-class judicial magistrate from January 14 to 18 ahead of Kushtia's Bheramara municipality election.

During the election on January 16, he received complaint that a group of people were sitting inside Bheramara Pilot Model High School polling centre and trying to manipulate voters.

When he entered the centre around 10:00am, he found some people sitting on a long bench inside the polling booth with the polling agents.

Then, the magistrate called the concerned presiding officer outside the booth to know who those people are.

As soon as he started talking with the presiding officer, SP SM Tanvir along with forces entered the polling station and called the presiding officer.

Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman and his forces also appeared on the scene and asked the presiding officer to go with him.

According to the complaint, the SP approached the magistrate and questioned, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

The SP asked the magistrate to leave the centre even after he introduced himself.

Then, the magistrate left the centre and informed the Bheramara Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

The magistrate termed the behaviour of SP "aggressive" and "rude".

In his complaint, the magistrate said SP's behaviour was a violation of concerned rules. Therefore, prayers have been made to take necessary action.

Contacted, Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan told our correspondent that the complaint was submitted as per the instruction from the higher authorities.

Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafat said he would not like to talk to journalists about it as the matter has been solved through discussion with Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan and higher authorities.
