Lightning kills 5, injures 13 in five districts

At least five people were killed and 13 others injured by lightning in Barisal, Thakurgaon, Chandpur and Munshiganj districts yesterday.

Two farmers were killed and three others injured as a thunderbolt hit them at Andharmanik village in Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal during a storm at around 12:30pm.

The deceased are Rustom Ali Sikder, 60, and Ishaq Ali Hawlader, 40, reports our correspondent.

Injured Surma, Abu Bakkar and Abdur Razzak were admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said police.

According to our Thakurgaon correspondent, a housewife was killed and three others were injured by lightning at Parbhabanipur village in Pirganj upazila early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Halima Begum, 50, wife of Sahadat Ali of the village, reports our correspondent.

The injured are Rohidul, 42, son of late Abdul Jalil, his wife Amena Begum, 35, and their daughter Kohinur Begum, 12, of the village.

Away in Chandpur, a farmer was killed and five others were injured by lightning in Dhanua area of Faridganj upazila, reports our correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Hanif Talukder, 50, said the officer-in-charge of Faridganj Police Station.

Our Munshiganj correspondent adds: a brick field worker was killed and two others were injured by lightning in Katpatti area of Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Nur Hossain, 40, son of Shamsul Bepari of Jajira upazila in Shariatpur district.

Injured Md Mosharraf, 23, of Patuakhali, and Md Jasim, 35, of Shariatpur, were admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital.
