Legal notice for army deployment in municipal polls

A Supreme Court lawyer in a legal notice requests the EC to deploy army to create a level-playing field for the upcoming municipality polls.

A Supreme Court lawyer today in a legal notice requested the Election Commission to deploy army to create a level-playing field for the upcoming municipality polls.

SM Zulfiqure Ali Junu sent the notice urging the commission to inform him by 72 hours as to why army was not being deployed and why legal action was not being taken against the ruling party lawmakers for violating electoral code of conduct.

He said if the EC does not respond to the notice he will file a writ petition with the High Court seeking its order to deploy the army for keeping a fair environment for the elections and ensuring security.

He also called for legal action against lawmakers for violating the electoral code of conduct.
