Law minister hands over latest edition of Bangladesh Code to CJ

Law Minister Anisul Huq today handed over the latest edition of Bangladesh Code to Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

The law ministry published the latest edition of Bangladesh Code in December last year in total 42 volumes containing 1,085 laws, regulations, president’s orders, and ordinances formulated and issued from 1799 to June 30, 2014, law ministry sources said.

The law minister handed over all the 42 volumes of new Bangladesh Code to the chief justice at the latter’s (CJ’s) Supreme Court office this afternoon.

The government is bound to publish Bangladesh Code updating all the practicing laws and regulations continuously as per Section 5 of Bangladesh Laws Revision and Declaration Act- 1973.

The Bangladesh Code was published for the first time in 1980 in 11 volumes containing the laws formulated from 1799 to 1937.

The government started updating the Bangladesh Code in 2013 with the financial assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), according to a law ministry press release.
