Mercilessly beaten by land grabber in-laws, a housewife of Purbo Kharibari village in Dimla upazila under the district landed in hospital yesterday.

The victim is Shilpi Begum, 35, daughter of Nur Hossain of the same village.

“My daughter was married with Asgor Ali, 38, son of Yusuf Ali, about 12 years ago and three children were born to them,” said Nur Hossain.

Hailing from Naruchi village in Tangail, Asgor and his parents had settled at Purbo Kharibari village.

“Two years ago, my son-in-law along with his parents went to Naruchi village home and married another woman there. Afterwards Shilpi continued maintaining her three children by cultivating her husband's five bighas of land here,” Nur Hossain said.

“Meanwhile, her husband's relative Yakub Ali Tikka started conspiracy to grab the property and house. He brought false allegation of illicit relation against her and started mental and physical torture on her over trivial matters, apparently to force her to leave the house.

“Today morning, Yakub along with his aides Shajahan, Anwar, Lipi, Rahima and others stormed the house, beat my daughter mercilessly and drove her away with infant children and occupied the house,” he said.

Shilpi was admitted to upazila health complex with two children in the afternoon.

“There are several injury marks on the victim's body. Besides suffering from severe pain all over the body, she is facing hearing problem,” said Dr Rasheduzzaman Rashed, resident medical officer of the health complex.

Rabiul Islam Shahin, chairman of Tepa Kharibari union parishad, said, “Earlier I arranged arbitration at my office to settle the dispute but Yakub Ali Tikka and his men didn't follow our decision. Obviously they had an evil plan to grab the property.”

“The victim's father is preparing to file a case and I will take action,” said the officer-in-charge of Dimla Police Station.
