Land feud kills farmer

An elderly farmer was killed over a disputed land at Badurtali village in Kalapara upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Badsha Shikder, 65, of the village.

Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Jahangir Shikder, son of the victim, and Chan Mia Shikder over a piece of land.

As a sequel to the conflict, the rival groups locked in an altercation yesterday. At one stage, Chan Mia's men pushed Badsha Shikder, leaving him injured. He was immediately rushed to the upazila health complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Meanwhile, at least three people, including two women, were injured in a clash in Dashmina upazila headquarters on Wednesday.

The injured are Md Hossain Hawlader, 35, his sister Amena Begum, 40, and mother Fatima Begum, 70.

Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Jainal Abedin Hawlader and his step brother Hossain Hawlader over ownership of two dwelling houses in the upazila.

As a sequel to the rivalry, Jainal Abedin's men came to Hossain's house on Wednesday evening and attacked them, leaving the three injured.
