Kushtia OC suspended for negligence of duty

District police administration has suspended the officer in charge of Kushtia Model Police Station Abdul Khaleq on charge of negligence of duty during a clash between two groups of pro-Awami League (AL) activists in the district town on Saturday.

Kushtia Superintendent of Police Proloy Chisim confirmed the matter.

The pro-ruling party men locked in a clash over establishment of supremacy during paying tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The clash took place between the men of district unit of Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League at Mazampur gate in the town and it left a Jubo League activist killed and 30 people injured.

Police arrested two people over the incident but did not disclose their identities to journalists.

Investigation is going on, said Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police in Khulna Range Ekram Ul Habib, who visited Kushtia over the incident.

Meanwhile, the man who fired from a gun during the clash has been identified as Anisur Rahman, a suspended assistant sub-inspector of police.

Anisur was suspended when he was serving at Kafrul Police Station in Dhaka on August 12 in 2013, on charge of misappropriation of recovered drugs, police said.

After his suspension, he started working with his relative Mominur Rahman, former general secretary of Kushtia town unit of AL.
