'Killer' Ansar man held in Khagrachhari

An Ansar member, who allegedly shot dead his colleague on Friday, was arrested in Chowdhuary Para area under Dighinala upazila of the district yesterday afternoon.

The arrestee is Rafiqul Islam, son of Mongal Mia of Logang Bazar area in Panchhari upazila, said Sahadat Hossain Titu, officer-in-charge of Dighinala Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, army men raided the house of United People's Democratic Front's leader Prity Chakma in the area around 3:00pm and arrested Rafiqul.

Superintendent of Police Md Mazid Ali at a press briefing said police seized a rifle and 80 bullets taken by Rafiqul soon after the killing, from a jungle in the area.

Rafiqul shot dead his colleague Nayek Amir Hossain at Chowdhury Tila Ansar camp following an altercation on Friday afternoon.

Rafiqul went into hiding with the rifle and bullets soon after the incident.

Yesterday, the victim's son Farid Mia filed a case with the police station, accusing Rafiqul in this connection, said the OC.
