Kid rescued 40 hours into abduction

Police on Friday night rescued a three-year-old boy from Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj nearly 40 hours after his abduction from Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj on Thursday.

Informed by the abductor's relatives, law enforcers rescued Jishan, son of Mulluk Mia of Pratapnagar village in Sonargaon, from Baghra village in Sreenagar.

Quoting Jishan's family members, police said Russel, son of Alamgir Hossain of Faridpur Sadar upazila, also a trading partner of the victim's father, abducted Jishan around 9:00am on Friday when the boy was playing in front of their house.

Soon after abduction, Russel phoned Jishan's uncle Saddam Hossain and demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom for his nephew's release. Mulluk Mia filed a case with Sonargaon Police Station, accusing Russel the same night.

Later, Russel took the boy to Faridpur and later to a relative's house in Baghra village in Sreenagar.

Seeing a kid with him and sensing his suspicious activities, Russel's relatives informed Baghra Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Islam of the matter.

On Friday evening, they took Russel to the chairman's house. He was kept confined to a room where he allegedly committed suicide.

Russel's father filed an unnatural death (UD) case with Sreenagar Police Station, Officer-in-Charge Shahidur Rahman of the police station said.
