Khadiza to return home in a day or two

Sylhet college student Khadiza Begum Nargis will be able to return home from Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar in a day or two.

Brutally attacked by former BCL leader Badrul Alam on October 3, Khadiza is doing well now, CRP authorities said at a press conference according to Bangla daily Prothom Alo. She was moved to CRP from the city’s Square Hospitals on November 28.

Khadiza can now walk and she is also able to talk, CRP’s medical services chief physician Syed Uddin Helal was quoted as saying by the daily.

She is able to do everyday tasks and her memory has improved as well, Dr Helal said.

“I am doing well,” Khadiza said at the conference where she thanked the prime minister, her doctors, the press and the people of this country.

Khadiza was hacked brutally by Badrul Alam, who was a fourth-year student at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and also senior assistant secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League unit in Sust.

She was first taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Square Hospitals in Dhaka.

She was in a coma when she was admitted to the Neuro Intensive Care Unit and put on life support, which was removed recently after her condition improved.

Police on November 8 pressed charges of attempted murder against Badrul, who was later indicted in the case.
