Two Junior School Certificate examinees died and three other examinees remain missing after a boat capsized with over 100 people in Pagla river in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria this morning.

Three JSC examinees were also injured when the boat capsized after it hit a pillar of the under construction Krishnanagar Bridge around 9:00am, several students told our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

The deceased -- Sonia Akter, 14, and Nadira Akter, 15, -- were on their way to the exam hall at Krishnanagar Abdul Jabbar High School when the incident took place, the correspondent reports quoting Nabinagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tanvir Salehin Gazi.

Most of the passengers of the boat were JSC candidates, who were on their way to the centre from Thanakandi Ghat as the class eight public examinations began across the country today, the correspondent reports quoting Fire Service and other sources.

Immediately after the incident, a large number of people gathered there, recovered the bodies and rushed them to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where doctors declared two of them dead, UNO Gazi said.

The condition of Aklima Akter, who was injured in the incident, was stated to be critical, Azharul Rahman Tuhin, on-duty doctor at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital’s emergency department said.
