Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today said the judiciary has been relieved of burden following the resignation of Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha as the chief justice.

“If anybody of the judiciary is involved in graft or moral turpitude, he or she should not stay in the judiciary in any manner,” he said in reaction over the resignation.

Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has resigned from the office of chief justice amid flak from the ruling quarters over different issues including the 16th amendment verdict.

Now abroad, he sent his resignation letter to the Bangabhaban, the official residence of President Abdul Hamid, at Saturday morning. The reason of resignation was unknown.

Mahbubey Alam said that other judges of the Appellate Division were reluctant to sit with Justice Sinha. “Against such backdrop, the rejoining of Justice Sinha to the office of chief justice is a far cry.”
