Jubo League leader locks Gopalganj WDB office

A local Jubo League leader allegedly locked the office of the upazila Water Development Board (WDB) at Tungipara on Thursday because he did not get the tender of a work.

Mayor of Tungipara Municipality Sheikh Ahmad Hossan Mirja unlocked it the next day.

Executive Engineer SM Mainuddin alleged that Tungipara Jubo League General Secretary Imdad Biswas locked the office because he did not get a tender of the work.

Mainuddin said Tk 5 crore was allocated for building a 4 kilometre-long earthen road from Katakhali to Tarail. Imdad locked the office as he applied for the work but Md Ilias Hossain, a contractor of Karim Group got it, Mainuddin said.

“We informed the deputy commissioner of Gopalganj, superintendent of police, and office-in-charge of Tungipara Police Station about the matter. Mayor of Tungipara unlocked the office on Friday,” Mainuddin said.

Imdad said, “Some office staff took money from me but they did not give me the work. There was some disturbance at the WDB office, but I did not lock the office.”
