JS membership of ASM Feroz legal: HC

The court rejected a writ petition challenging the legality of holding the office of lawmaker by Feroz over a default loan.

The HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Zafar Ahmed delivered the verdict that Feroz has rescheduled his bank loan on time and therefore there is no illegality in his holding the office.

Feroz won the January 5 polls uncontested from Patuakhali-2 constituency.

Zia-Ul Haque, municipality mayor of Bauphal in Patuakhali, filed the writ petition in February last year challenging the legality of holding the office of lawmaker by Feroz.

In his petition, he said Feroz did not reschedule his bank loan on time as mandatory under the Representation of the People Order.

On February 10 last year, the HC issued a rule upon the government and election commission to explain under what authority Feroz will hold the office of MP.

After holding hearing on the rule, the HC today delivered the verdict.
