JS greets Tulip, Rupa, Rushanara

The Jatiya Sangsad today passed a thanksgiving motion unanimously for Tulip Siddiq, granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Rupa Huq and Rushanara Ali on their winning in the British parliament elections.

The lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches congratulated the Bangladeshi-born three British MPs saying that their victory in the UK parliamentary elections brightened the image of British-Bangladeshis.

Taking part in the discussion with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, they said the three daughters of Bangladesh enriched the country's dignity in the world context through showing their respective merits, wisdom, hard labour and potentiality.

"We are really proud of them, especially for Tulip Siddiq, who has become the inspiration of new generation to flourish their leadership quality through sacrifice and utmost dedication," treasury bench member and former foreign minister Dipu Moni told the House proposing for passage of a thanksgiving motion on their historic victory in the British Parliament.

Tulip Siddiq, also a niece of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and daughter of Sheikh Rehana, polled 23,977 votes to win the race against her nearest rival from the Conservative party. Rupa Huq polled 22,002 votes and Rushanara Ali secured 32,387 votes to win.

Dipu Moni congratulated Bangladeshi-born three leaders of the new generation and wished their success in discharging responsibilities as Member of Parliament in Britain through the polls on May 7, 2015.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shariar Alam, State Minister for ICT Zonaed Ahmed Palak, State Minister Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, treasury bench members-Fazlul Karim Selim, Suranjit Sengupta, Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif, Sagupta Yasmin, Begum Fazilatunnesa Bappi, Begum Sanjida Khanam, AKM Shahjahan Kamal, Abdul Mannan, Md Monirul Islam, Advocate Abu Zaher, opposition member Peer Fazlur Rahman, Independent lawmaker Rustom Ali Farazi.

Participating in the discussion, Tofail Ahmed congratulated the three female members in the British Parliament for their victory.

"A descendant of Bangabandhu, Tulip earned image for the country while a son of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda has tarnished the reputation of the country outside the state," Tofail said adding, "The quarter also tried to defeat Tulip in the election through different means."

The minister said the victory of Tulip and two others upheld the image of the country abroad and earned honour for the people of Bangladesh in Britain.

Taking part in the discussion, Matia Chowdhury said Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana are the worst sufferers of various odd times but they are working for the people's happiness and peace. She congratulated Tulip and hoped she would do better in future.

Treasury bench Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim recalled the contribution of Bangabandhu and the success of Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Joy, Putul and Tulip in an emotion choked voice.

"Being the descendent of Bangabandhu, they have all enriched the image of the country," he said urging all concerned to pray for their success in future.

Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, a former diplomat who worked in London, described the bilateral relation between the two countries and also the uncompromising leadership quality of Tulip Siddiq what he witnessed there.

He congratulated Tulip and two others for achieving victory in the British parliamentary polls.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zonaed Ahmed Palak lauded the successful victory of the three female MPs by becoming the proud members of the House of Commons.

He said they in the meantime proved their worth as icons of new generations.

Referring to a British newspaper's report that termed Tulip Siddfiq as one of the rising stars in politics, Palak said, "Bangabandhu gave us Independence and his beloved daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already turned the country into a role model of development while her son, daughter and niece identified themselves as icons of new generation."
