JS body for making BB heist probe report public

A parliamentary body today expressed dissatisfaction over the finance ministry and its minister AMA Muhith for not making public the probe report on Bangladesh Bank reserve heist.

The parliamentary standing committee on finance recommended that the ministry to make the report public immediately considering the country’s image.

“The probe report on the reserve heist is yet to make public. The committee thinks people should know the names of the masterminds and they should be brought to book,” M Abdur Razzaque, chief of the committee told The Daily Star after the meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Razzaque, also a ruling Awami League MP, said the country’s image is more important than the stolen money.

Finance Minister earlier on different occasions, including in parliament on July 21, said the investigation report on Bangladesh Bank's reserve heist will be made public within the “next few days”.

"I think the probe report will be made public within the next few days. I'll try to deliver a statement in this regard anytime in parliament during the ongoing session,” he told parliament.

As many as $101million was stolen from Bangladesh Bank’s reserve account with the New York Federal Reserve by cyber criminals earlier this year.

The government-formed three-member committee in April submitted its preliminary report.

The three-member panel, led by former Bangladesh Bank governor Mohammed Farashuddin, submitted its final report to the finance minister on May 30.
