‘Regional commander’ among 3 ‘JMB’ men held in Rajshahi, Pabna

Police today claimed to have arrested three members of banned militant outfit Jamaa'tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) including a regional commander in Pabna and Rajshahi.

Mostafizur Rahman Shahin, 40, regional commander of Pabna, was arrested from the district town while two other ‘JMB’ members -- Abdul Quddus, 40, and Abdul Wahab, 65, -- were arrested from Rajshahi, report our local correspondents.

Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said that Mostafizur was arrested in a raid at Kacharipur around 3:00am on charge of recruiting militants in Pabna.

He was commander during a bomb attack in Meherpur district while a series of bomb attack took place simultaneously across the country on August 17, 2003, OC Razzak said.

Meanwhile, in Rajshahi, police arrested Abdul Quddus, a follower of executed JMB leader Bangla Bhai, from Yogipara in the district’s Bagmara upazila.

He is a listed criminal and accused of several cases, said Sumit Chowdhury, additional superintendent of police in Rajshahi.

He was held from his residence around 3:00am in Bagmara upazila, police said. 

Besides, the law enforcers arrested Abdul Wahab and three activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, at Puthia upazila of Rajshahi last night.
