Jim, Sadeq tell of horrifying event
Plainclothes people blindfolded, handcuffed and lifted them up
On January 10, when Sadeq along with Monwarul Hassan Jim, vice president of Sadullapur upazila Jubo League, was moving towards Naldanga at Lalbazar on a motorbike, some eight to ten plainclothes people waylaid them.
Before they could sense anything, the plainclothes men picked up them and boarded a microbus parked there.
They then blindfolded and handcuffed them, Sadequl Islam Sadeq, former president of Damodarpur union unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, recalled the horrific occurrence while talking to reporters yesterday.
Jim and Sadeq, out of four 'missing' leaders of Awami League and BNP in the district, returned in the morning.
The two along with Shafiul Islam Shapla, 32, assistant secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Naldanga union unit, and Maidul Islam Prince, 30, publication secretary of Awami League in the union, went missing nearly nine days ago.
“After dropping us off a microbus at a lonely place in Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari at midnight, some people told us to take our motorcycle and go straight, without looking back'. We later returned home,” said traumatised Sadeq.
“We did not know about our whereabouts as we remained blindfolded all the time but they served food three times,” he said.
“We never met each other and were staying in two single rooms. We are now very tired,” Jim said.
“We don't know how the missing people returned, however, we are still searching for the other two missing men,” said OC Farhad Emrul Quyesh of Sadullapur Police Station.
Earlier on Wednesday, family members of the missing leaders at a press conference in the town said the four were picked up by plainclothes people from different areas.
They also urged the law enforcement agencies to take steps to trace their near ones' whereabouts.
Demanding return of her husband, Sathi Begum, wife of missing assistant secretary of JCD Naldanga union unit Shafiul Islam Shapla, 30, held the conference at Gaibandha Press Club.
On January 17, local people blocked rail tracks in the district for an hour during a half-day shutdown that was called in protest at the "disappearance" of the four leaders.
