Jamaat man shot dead in Pabna

A Jamaat-e-Islami activist was stabbed and shot dead by unidentified assailants in Pabna Sadar upazila last night.

Dead Md Shariful Islam, 45, was involved with Jamaat’s Bharara union parishad unit and a teacher of Chorbolorampur Dakhil Madrasa, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting Ahsanul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Shariful was also a former member of the union parishad, local Jamaat men told the correspondent.

At least five unidentified criminals, covering their mouths with black cloths, attacked Shariful when he was watching television at a stall of Bharara village around 9:30pm, according to police and locals.

They first stabbed Shariful in front of locals and then shot him to confirm his death, said Md Abu Sayeed, chairman of Bharara union parishad.

On information, police rushed to the scene and recovered the body around 10:30pm yesterday.

“Police is investigating the incident. “We can't say anything about the reason behind the killing before an investigation is done.” OC Ahsanul said.
