Pro-BNP teachers and officials of Jahangirnagar University today formed a human chain on the premises of Shaeed Minar on the campus demanding the party chief Khaleda Zia’s release and her better treatment.

Around 50 teachers under the banner of “Jahangirnagar Nationalist Teachers-Officers-Staff Forum” formed the human chain around 10:00am, our JU correspondent reports.

During the programme, Prof Abdul Latif Masum of department of government and politics said, “No Khaleda Zia, no election. When people observe politics in democratic and peaceful manners, government does not pay heed to, but when people take to streets in large number it bows down.”

The teachers are mulling a large-scale movement soon for the release of Khaleda.

Khaleda landed in jail on February 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in a graft. Since then she has been in solitary confinement in Old Central Jail in Dhaka and the party has been claiming her health condition is exacerbating and needs better treatment.
