Issuing alerts has become a practice of US: Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said issuance of alerts has become a practice of the United States.

“We don’t have any information on any risk. Or there is no such situation. Then, why the United States has issued alerts,” the minister said.

Asaduzzaman was replying to a query by journalists after he inaugurated a training programme on "Transnational Crime " at the Police Staff College in Mirpur.

 Earlier on Wednesday, the US Embassy in Dhaka issued a travel alert for its citizens planning to visit Bangladesh.

“Despite the wonderful atmosphere here, I do not understand why USA is not satisfied,” the minister lamented.

“If they've any information regarding the threats against their citizens in Bangladesh, they should provide us the information with related intelligence,” the minister added.

On BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s release

The minister said they have not yet received any application requesting the government to release BNP chief Khaleda Zia from jail on parole.

But if an application is sent in this regard, then it will be scrutinized under the current law and then a decision will be taken, the minister said.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain yesterday urged the government to release her from jail on parole on humanitarian ground for her better treatment.

On surrender of outlaws

A total of 614 members of several outlawed parties of Pabna will surrender to the police on Tuesday (April 9).

Even 30 years ago, different members of various outlawed parties reigned supreme over many places in the country but they have now significantly reduced in number and have become weak, the minister said.

Asked about their rehabilitation, the minister said they would be given support as per the law.
