The deceased was identified as Ateef Sheikh, 25, a final year MBBS student of University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station.

Ateef’s roommate Winson Maisnam Singh, 23, who allegedly stabbed him, was rescued by other roommates after he tried to hang himself, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting police.

Both Ateef and Winson were first taken to USTC hospital and then to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors pronounced Ateef dead.

The incident took place around 11:00pm last night at an apartment on the fourth floor of a six-storey building on Abdul Hamid Road at Lake View Society in the area.

Police suspected that following an altercation between the two, Winson might have stabbed Ateef and then tried to hang himself, the correspondent reports.

Four students including a female of the same university resided in the flat, the OC said.
