Indian couple held with arms

A joint team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Indian couple from Bagichapara village in Shibganj upazila of the district early yesterday.

They also seized four foreign made pistols, 27 bullets and eight magazines from their possession, said Additional Superintendent of Police Sakibul Islam Khan, commander of Chapainawabganj Rab camp.

The arrestees are Kadir Sheikh, 57, son of Sher Mahmud, and his wife Alek Nur Bibi, 53, of Chalkmilepur village under Kaliachalk Police Station in Malda of West Bengal.

Informed that some Indian citizens were waiting for selling arms in the bordering village, a joint team of Rab-5 and BGB-9 Battalion raided the area and arrested the couple with the firearms and bullets.

The arrestees were handed over to Shibganj Police Station, said the ASP.

Later, a case was filed with the police station against the couple, said the police official.
