India concerned over safety of Bangladesh Hindus

India today conveyed its concerns over the security of Hindu minority community in Bangladesh, in the backdrop of recent attacks on the group in Brahmanbaria.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has conveyed the concern via Indian high commission to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

"I have asked Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka to call on Prime Minister and express our grave concern about the safety and wellbeing of the Hindus in Bangladesh," Swaraj said in a Tweet.

The concern came today after fresh attacks in Brahmanbaria during the ongoing spate of hate attacks that started from a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment of Muslims.

Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup had said three days ago that New Delhi has asked Dhaka to ensure safety of Hindus and their properties.

Bangladesh's National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had said the attacks on several Hindu temples in Bangladesh were carried out under a well orchestrated plan aimed at grabbing lands of the minority community.
