Illicit relation ends in their suicide

A housewife and her alleged lover committed suicide by hanging with scarves from the ceiling at the woman's house at Kasba-Hajinagar village in Krishnapur union under Manikganj Sadar upazila on Monday night.

Of them, Delwar Hossain, 22, son of Chand Mia, was an unmarried person and Sweety Akter, 20, was second wife of Saudi Arabia expatriate Nazrul Islam of the same village, said Abdul Hamid Chandu, chairman of Krishnapur union parishad.

"Nazrul's first wife left Nazrul, keeping their son and daughter with him. Sweety looked after the two kids. Nazrul came home nine months ago and left for Saudi Arabia after one month," he added. 

"Delwar, who had an illicit relation with Sweety for long, went to her house at around 11:00pm on Monday.

Sensing the matter, locals locked the door of the house, keeping them inside," Aminur Rahman, officer in charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station quoted locals as saying.

"Fearing humiliation, the duo committed suicide by hanging with scarves from ceiling of the house.

Police recovered the bodies from the spot around 12:30am Tuesday and sent them to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy," he said.

A case was filed in this connection with Sadar police station.
