Idols of Dinajpur temple damaged

Statues of deities in a Durga temple in Chirirbandar upazila of the district were found damaged in the early hours yesterday.

Dhananjoy Roy, a member of Dangirpar Bottola Durga Temple in the upazila, said they went home from the temple at around 3:00am yesterday.

In the morning, villagers saw that the statues in the temple, including those of Durga, Laxmi, Ganesh and Saraswati, had been beheaded. They informed the members of the temple immediately.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Golam Rabbani visited the spot on getting the information.

Officer-in-Charge of Chirirbandar Police Station Haresul Islam said filing of a case was underway.

This was the third such incident in the district since August 26. Statues in the central cremation yard, Mashimpur Roypara Durga Temple in Sadar upazila and Sujalpur Sanatanpara Durga temple in Birganj upazila were found damaged on Monday.

Police said the criminals beheaded all the statues in the three temples.
