ICT wants charges against 19 Cox’s Bazar ‘war criminals’ by Nov 23

A tribunal today ordered prosecution to submit formal charges against 19 war crime suspects from Cox’s Bazar within November 23.

International Crimes Tribunal-1 set the timeframe after prosecutor Rana Dasgupta pleaded for two months’ time in preparation to file charges.

At court, Dasgupta said his team had received all necessary evidences of war crimes against the accused and that time is needed to assemble them.

A total of 19 people were sued in the case filed over crimes against humanity – which is the highest ever accused in any case related to wartime offences.

The prosecution implicated another person in the case today, saying his involvement in war crimes committed in 1971 was found. ICT-1 issued an arrest warrant against him after hearing.

Among the first batch of 19, seven were primarily arrested. One of them died in custody and another is now on bail. Five are now in prison.
