ICT-1 issues show cause on prosecutors’ absence

A tribunal in Dhaka has issued a show cause notice against the acting chief prosecutor seeking an explanation why all the prosecutors skipped today’s court proceedings.
Acting Chief Prosecutor Syed Haider Ali will have to submit a reply before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 in 15 days.
The three-member tribunal, led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, issued the notice upon Haider Ali as none of the prosecutors were present at the tribunal when the during today’s court proceedings.
Today was fixed for passing order on a contempt of court proceeding against barrister AKM Fakhrul Islam, a defence counsel of convicted war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
Fakhrul was arrested on November 20, 2013 for his alleged involvement in leaking the draft verdict in war crimes case against BNP lawmaker Salauddin.
The defence counsel had earlier offered ‘unconditional apology’.
