Hundreds say goodbye to child marriage

Hundreds of people yesterday showed red cards to early marriage, declaring Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj free from child marriage.

People from all walks of life, mostly students of the district, held up red cards for five minutes. Lal Sobuj Unnyon Sangha in the upazila organised the programme.

They also took an oath that they will keep the district free from child marriage and will raise awareness about the demerits of the tradition of child marriage.

The grand event was held at Dharmaghar College Hall where Sajedul Islam Palash, officer-in-charge of Madhabpur Police Station, declared the upazila free from child marriage.

Madhabpur is the latest upazila freed from child marriage.

Kawsar Alam Sohel, president of Lal Sobuj Unnyon Sangha, said they worked hard for last couple of years to keep the district free from child marriage.
