HSC admission seekers confine principal

Female HSC admission seekers of Birganj Women's Degree College in Dinajpur's Birganj upazila staged demonstration and confined the principal of the college to his office for an hour on Monday, protesting delay in admission process.

Police said about 150 female students of the upazila started demonstration in front of the administrative building of the college around 1:00pm.

They later confined college Principal Rafiqul Islam to his office for nearly an hour from 2:00pm on allegation of delaying the admission process.

On information, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Hossain of Birganj Police Station.

The admission aspirants alleged that the college authorities ignored the waiting list, which they had hung before.

Some of the students alleged that after the admission date expired on June 25, the principal told them to communicate with the college authority after the Eid holiday.

After Eid the principal told them that there is no vacant seat for the waiting list candidates, they said.

Principal Rafiqul Islam said although Dinajpur Education Board published a waiting list for 503 students earlier, but later they cut short the list to 10.
