House, shop of Hindu vandalised

Following a rumour of posting of a distorted picture on Facebook humiliating Muslim religion, local people vandalised a house and shop of a Hindu youth at Hatkrishnapur bazar in Sadarpur upazila of the district yesterday.

To avoid any further unwanted incident, police arrested the youth, Vishnu Malo, 22, and imposed section 144 in the area.   

Md Billal Hossain Fakir, chairman of Krishnapur Union Parishad, said some 200 angry people attacked the computer and mobile servicing shop, owned by Vishnu, at Hatkrishnapur bazar following a Facebook post through an account named "Vishnu Kumar Malo" around 10:00am.

The mob also vandalised the house of the youth. Police brought the situation under control around 11:00am.

Vishnu claimed that he did not post any picture related to religion. He runs a Facebook account in the name "Rahulvishnu" and the picture was posted from some Vishnu Kumar Malo's account.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Purobi Goldar said Section-144 has been imposed in the area from 3:00pm yesterday till 6:00pm today.

Office-in-Charge of Sadarpur Police Station said, they brought the situation under control and arrested Vishnu Malo for inquiry. Additional police have been deployed in the area, said the OC.
