Hindu priest rescued unhurt 24 hours after abduction

A Hindu priest was rescued unhurt today in Rangpur within 24 hours after he went missing.

Uttam Kumar Mohanta, 50, a resident of Sardarpara village under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur, went missing yesterday morning, reports our Dinajpur correspondent quoting Md Abdur Razzak, superintendent of police (SP) of Rangpur.

Police arrested one Anwar Hossain, 40, in connection with the incident, the SP said at a press conference at his office around 4:00pm today.

Miscreants abducted Mohanta for ransom from Lalmonihat yesterday, he said.

The criminals called his son Akash Chandra Mohanta on his phone and demanded Tk 1.5 lakh as ransom, he also said.

A police team led by Abdullah Al Faruk, assistant superintendent of police of Rangpur, raided a house in Lalmonirhat around 10:00am today and rescued him unhurt, he added.

A case was filed with Pirganj Police Station in this connection, the SP added.
