A man arrested yesterday has been remanded for allegedly publishing a demeaning Facebook post which sparked the mayhem in Rangpur last week.

Tito Chandra Roy, arrested yesterday from Nilphamari four days after the incident, has been placed in a four-day remand, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.

Rangpur Chief Judicial Magistrate Debangsha Kumar Sarkar passed the order after lawmen produced Roy before court and sought him in 10-day remand.

Sirajul Islam, an Imam of a mosque, and Alamgir Hossain, a trader, filed the case against Tito with Gangachara Police Station. The case was transferred to Rangpur Detective Police last night.

Up until now, about 60 people have been detained over the indiscriminate arson on Hindu houses and clashes with police in Thakurpara last Friday that left one person dead.
