High-powered panel formed for Rooppur nuke plant

The government has formed a high-powered panel for the Rooppur nuclear power in Pabna’s Ishwardi that will monitor the project’s overall safety and completion.

Cabinet division of Bangladesh government issued a notice in this regard today placing the divisional commissioner of Rajshahi at its head and Ishwardi’s UNO its secretary.

Highest administration and police officials of Pabna, Kushtia and Natore are among its members.

The 2400-megawatt US$ 12.65 billion nuclear plant was approved on December 23, 2015. Rosatom, a Russian firm, will maintain the plant for a year before handing it over to Bangladesh.

The body, formed today, will advise for the overall safety of the programme. Also, it will work to create awareness for the nuke plant, assist in land acquisition for project purpose and improve communication to assist the construction work.
