Exams suspended in 15 schools
Train service on Mymensingh-Jamalpur route was disrupted for three hours as rail tracks went under water in Mymensingh after the town experienced the highest rainfall today.
Around 15 schools have suspended their examinations in the town as classrooms were inundated following the heavy rain, reports our district correspondent.
Around 84 millimeters rains were recorded in Mymensingh in three hours till noon, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department
Intercity Teesta Express left for Jamalpur around 1:20pm after a three-hour halt at Mymensingh station as rail lines in the area were inundated by the rain water, Abu Taher station master, told the Daily Star.
“We have suspended all sorts of examinations as rain water entered the high schools,” Md Yunus Faruque, headmaster of Mymensingh Government High School, told our district correspondent
Many students have failed to reach the schools as the rain inundated their houses, the headmaster said.
Half yearly and pretest examinations were scheduled to be held in two shifts today but the authorities were forced to suspend the examinations due to the heavy rain, said Amen Khatun, headmaster of Mymensingh Government Laboratory High School.
The rain began with an overcast sky and occasional thunder and lightning in Mymensingh town this morning.
The rain water also entered the Kewatkhali power sale and distribution office in the area. As a result, the electricity connection remains disrupted since 9:00am, Jahangir Alam Jewel, an executive engineer, said.
