Why Tk 30 lakh won’t be paid to Nirob’s family: HC

The High Court today issued a rule upon the government to explain in four weeks as to why it should not be directed to compensate Tk 30 lakh to the family of Nirob, a boy who died after falling in a sewer.

The court, in response to a writ petition, ordered the officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station to inform in three months about the steps taken against the persons responsible for the incident.

Five-year-old Nirob Hossain Ismail died after falling into a sewer in the capital's Shyampur area on December 8.

The HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo came up with the rule and order after hearing the writ petition filed by Children's Charity Bangladesh Foundation.

The organisation filed the petition on Sunday seeking the High Court’s directives on the government to compensate Tk 30 lakh to Nirob’s family.
