HC clears way for Bodi’s trial

The High Court today cleared the way for a lower court to run the trial proceedings of a corruption case filed against Abdur Rahman Bodi, Awami League lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Ramna Police Station on August 21 last year, accusing Bodi of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 6.33 crore and concealing information about the properties worth Tk 3.99 crore in his wealth statement.

Today, the HC rejected a writ petition filed by Bodi challenging the legality of the proceeding of the case.

The HC bench of Justice Miftha Uddin Choudhury and justice Kazi Md Esarul Haque Akondo rejected the petition considering that it was not properly moved before the court.

Bodi filed the writ petition with the HC on September 13, saying that the ACC has not properly followed legal provision in filing the corruption case against him. 

The ACC lawyer, Khurshid Alam Khan, told The Daily Star that the Special Court-3 of Dhaka is set to record statements from the witnesses of the case against Abdur Rahman on October 6.

The AL lawmaker is now on bail in the cases.
