Govt to focus on making skilled manpower

The government will give more focus on building skilled human resources as labour receiving countries have huge demand of such migrant workers, Minister Nurul Islam said today.

“We are giving importance on building up skilled workers to fulfill demand in the labour markets,” Nurul Islam, minister for expatriates' welfare and overseas employment said today.

He made the remark after signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with International Manpower Development Organisation of Japan (IM Japan) to train Bangladeshis in manufacturing and construction sectors.

Under the MoU, the Bangladeshis will receive a one-year training in Japan and get JPY (Japanese Yen) 80,000 equivalent to TK 49,718 every month as training allowance.

Upon completion of the training, the trainees, who would do well, will be eligible to work for four years. The Bangladeshis, however, will have to return home after ending of the training.

IM Japan Kyoei Yanagisawa said his country is receiving technical interns from different countries of Southeast Asia under the technical intern training programme. Japan will hire sufficient number of technical interns from Bangladesh, he added.

Earlier, another MoU was signed with IM Japan to train 500 Bangladeshis.

A five –member Japanese team led by Kyoei Yanagisawa is visiting Bangladesh.

Expatriates’ Welfare Secretary, Begum Shamsun Nahar, additional secretaries Jabed Ahmed and Mohammad Azharul Haque, Bangladesh Manpower, Employment and Training director general Selim Reza and other senior government officials were present at the programme.
