Bilateral talks with Myanmar going on for Rohingya repatriation: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said that the government has started bilateral discussions with Myanmar to repatriate the Rohingya refugees.

"The home minister has already visited Myanmar while the Foreign Minister is there now. He'll discuss this issue," she told the parliament.

The premier reiterated that Myanmar has to find a solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis saying her government is committed to take steps for sending back the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens to their homeland safely and respectfully.

"The Rohingya crisis started in Myanmar. So, Myanmar has to find a solution. To this end, we're committed to taking steps to send back the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens to their homeland," she said.

Hasina also said the world leaders are playing a special role in mounting pressure on Myanmar and have stood beside Bangladesh on this issue.

In a scripted answer, PM said around 6.24 lakh Rohingyas have entered Bangladesh as of October 28 amid persecution by Myanmar military since August 25.

In reply to another question, PM said the killing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar is the worst in the world.

She also said the bio-metric registration of 5,99,460 Rohingyas has been completed so far as of November 20 and it is likely to be completed by December, this year.
