Why has Gram Police Bahini not been included in govt pay scale, HC asks govt to explain in 4 weeks

The High Court today issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks why it should not be directed to include Gram Police Bahini (Village Police Force) in the pay scale declared by the government as fourth class government employees.

In the rule, the court asked the government authorities to show causes why their inaction in absorbing 55 members of Gram police force who are the petitioners in revenue set up upon regularising them in their respective posts as government employees with all benefits should not be declared illegal.

The High Court bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan came up with the rule following a writ-petition filed by 55 members of Gram Police Bahini seeking its order on the government to give them scale equal to the fourth class employees.

Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab, a lawyer for the petitioners told The Daily Star that the government had decided on July 9, 2008 to give Gram Police Bahini scale equal to fourth class employees of the government.

But the government has not yet implemented the decision.
