The appeal against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail, in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, has been forwarded to a full bench hearing slated for tomorrow.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hassan Foyez Siddique forwarded the two petitions filed by the government and Anti-Corruption Commission, seeking stay on the High Court bail orders, and fixed tomorrow for hearing.

In the meantime, the bail that Khaleda got from the High Court will continue.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia received the bail order yesterday, but without the permission to walk out from jail as she has been shown arrested in another violence case of Comilla.

On February 8, the Special Judge's Court-5 of Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to five years of rigorous imprisonment in the graft case that tantamounted to graft worth Tk 2.10 crore.

The court also jailed her elder son Tarique Rahman, now acting chairman of the BNP, and four others for 10 years and fined them Tk 2.1 crore. All the six convicts would have to pay the fine in equal amounts.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Ramna Police Station in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that came from a foreign bank as grants for orphans.
