A giraffe has given birth to a calf for the first time at Bangabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur.

The calf was born early Tuesday, Sarwar Hossain Khan, chief curator of the park, told our local correspondent.

The mother and the calf are in good health but the calf was kept separated from its mother for safety, the curator said.

The newly born is being kept under intensive medical supervision, he said.

The authorities are not allowing seeing the baby animal. Both of them will be open for visitors after the vulnerable period is over, he also said.

With the birth of the baby, the number of the giraffe family rose to nine.

Very soon the baby giraffe will be adorned with a cute name.

A total of 12 giraffes were brought to the park in different phases in 2013 and 2015 but two of them died in 2016 and two more died in May this year, he said.
